Typography

Thin Typeface Jimmothy
Rounded Typeface Jimmy
Block Typeface Jim
'Jimmy' is a typeface I created for a University project. This assignment required us to use any inspiring materials to help create a typeface of our own. I explored the shapes and colours associated with alphabet cubes for my typeface. I wanted to incorporate the objects physical, block form, primary colour scheme and slight curvaceous features into my own alphabet and 'Jimmy' was what I came up with.

This next typography project brief asked me to create and display my assigned letter as a sculpture, in a video or on a poster. I was given the capital letter A. I began my research by exploring the shapes in which the letter can be seen in whether that was in nature, symbolism or within ourselves. During my exploration, I discovered the depths to which this letter illustrates and exudes power through its philosophical and cultural symbolism as well as its physical structure. A standing man sculpture would encapsulate all of things for me, and while I trialled approaching this output from a more artistic angle, to fully embody the letter’s strength I needed my sculpture to obviously emphasise its powerful sense of being, balance and strength. So, I created a simple, symmetrical capital A sculpture, and with much of my inspiration coming from the Ancient Greek Gods, I named the project “Orthostasía”, which is a Greek word that directly translates to "standing" or "standing upright".
